Traveling with pets: Preparation checklist for self-driving, high-speed rail and airplanes

Check in advance the pet policy at your destination and en route.
Self-driving is the most flexible way. Prepare a flight case or safety harness, drinking bowl, absorbent pad, common medicines and vaccine booklet. Park your vehicle every two hours and do not leave your pet alone in the car. In the summer, the temperature inside the car can rise to fatal levels in ten minutes.
Currently, most high-speed rail lines do not allow pets to be brought into the cabin, and some lines support consignment. It is necessary to confirm the train number and quarantine certificate requirements in advance. Most cities require animal quarantine certificates, which are valid within a few days after issuance.
There are two types of aircraft: cabin carry-on and baggage check-in. Cabin space is limited and needs to be booked weeks in advance, and pets are usually restricted to eight kilograms or less. Air boxes that comply with IATA standards are required for checked shipment.
Doing a short test drive or adaptation training seven to ten days before traveling can significantly reduce the stress response during long-distance travel.
