Goldfish vs. Koi: Basic Differences Between Tank and Pond Keeping

Koi choose containers based on size potential, not current size.

Goldfish are suitable for tank culture, with an adult body length of 15 to 30 centimeters, and it is recommended to start with at least 20 liters of water for each fish; koi are pond fish, with an adult body length of more than 60 centimeters, and the density must be strictly controlled.

The processing capacity of a filtration system is measured in cycles per hour of water volume, with Goldfish recommending five to eight cycles per hour. The most common problems for novices are that the tank is too small, there are too many fish, and the water is changed too frequently.

Don’t change all the water, 20 to 30% each time, and control the water temperature difference within two degrees. Tap water must be dried in advance or treated with chlorine remover.

Observe health and behavior: floating head, sinking to the bottom, rubbing against the tank, and contraction of fins are all signals. New fish must be quarantined for two to four weeks before entering the tank to avoid introducing parasites and bacteria.
