Cat socialization: how to use the critical period before three months of age

If you miss the critical period, you won’t be able to make it up even if you try ten times harder later.
A cat's socialization window is approximately 2 to 7 weeks of age, extending as late as 14 weeks. The people, sounds, and scenes you come into contact with during this period will be marked as "safe" by the brain, and you will not be afraid when encountering similar stimuli in the future.
The specific method is to arrange 10 to 15 minutes of short contact every day: hugging, touching paws, turning ears, opening teeth, and snacks with different people. In terms of sound, we gradually introduced recordings of vacuum cleaners, doorbells, and children crying, starting from very low volumes.
Don't force it. Any struggle that is forcibly suppressed may form a long-term shadow and weaken the socialization effect. Making a good impression at the end of each session is more important than completing the project.
For adult cats that are afraid of people, use desensitization and reverse conditions instead: give a snack once when you take a step closer, and stop when you step away. The progress is in weeks, which requires a lot of patience.
