The correct way to raise Brazilian turtles: balconies, UVB and water management

Without a basking platform and UV light, the turtle's shell will slowly soften.
The Brazilian turtle is a semi-aquatic turtle and must have a balcony that can completely leave the water. Long-term soaking in water can lead to nail rot, fungal infections and metabolic bone disease.
UVB light works by synthesizing vitamin D3, which in turn absorbs calcium. Without UVB or adequate sunlight, turtles will develop soft shells, reduced appetite, and weak limbs. It is recommended that the lamp be replaced every six to twelve months. Even if it is still bright, the UV output will weaken.
The water temperature is recommended to be 25 to 28 degrees, and the water should be equipped with heating rods and filters. Turtles have a large excretion volume and have a higher filtration capacity than fish. The frequency of water changes is once a week, one-third each time.
Pay attention to public health risks: Turtles carry a higher proportion of salmonella. You must wash your hands after contact. Do not let turtles leave the water and crawl on the kitchen counter when there are young children at home.
