Dog bite training: four steps from biting to nibbling

The bite inhibition window in puppyhood is only three months.
Puppies explore the world through their mouths, and biting their hands is normal behavior. The key is to teach it "force control" before it is three to four months old. Once this window closes, it becomes more difficult to correct it as an adult.
Step one: Make a short "ah" sound when bitten and stop interacting immediately for ten seconds. Step 2: If he continues to bite, get up and leave the room for a minute. Step 3: Give it a substitute, such as a bite-resistant knot, and reward it immediately when it bites the right knot. Step 4: Invite different people to participate in the exercise and make the rules universal.
Be careful to differentiate between excited bites and nervous bites. Nervous biting is usually accompanied by body retraction and ears pressing back. This cannot be reprimanded and the source of the fear needs to be addressed first.
An adult must be present when there are children in the home. A child's screams will intensify the dog's excitement for play, creating a vicious cycle.
