What to do if your cat gets lost: The golden 72 hours of action

Lost indoor cats usually hide within 200 meters of their home.

The first hour: Place the cat litter box and its used mat outside the door. Smell is the most effective guide. At the same time, open the door of your home and leave a crack. Many cats will come back by themselves at night.

Night one to day two: Focus on searching the 200-meter area around your home, especially bushes, under cars, basement vents, and neighbor balconies. Indoor cats are extremely frightened after going out, and usually will not go far, but will find a gap where they can hide and stay still.

Choose the search time in the early morning and dusk, and bring a flashlight to shine in low places. Use your usual snack bag sound or the sound of opening a can instead of calling your name loudly. A fearful cat will hide further from loud sounds.

When making a cat search notice, mark the sterilization status, whether there is a collar, and whether the cat is afraid of people, and cover the property groups and express delivery stations in the surrounding communities. The highest rate of recovery is found within a week of being lost. Continuously posting notices is more effective than just waiting.
